Christmas & Festive Breaks
The winter months are a lovely season to spend time at the barns and no more so than in December, when tasteful Christmas decorations adorn the living areas. Guests that come to stay in December will enjoy indoor games, entertainment systems and atmospheric fires and decorations.
Of course, the private grounds and games rooms at both Penblaith Barn and Trevase Granary are still fully available to guests and kept warm so that a game of ping pong, pool or a dip in the hot tub are enjoyed as much as in the summer months. The hot tub at Penblaith Barn, although not indoors, is a must; you are positioned very close to the Brecon Beacons; a National Park Dark Sky Reserve, so the stars really are a sight to behold and with a glass of mulled wine with friends, we can't think of anything better!
In addition to the walks to local pubs, or taking in the scenery elsewhere nearby by foot, bike, horse or canoe, there is plenty the region for all ages in and around December. Clearwell Caves in the Forest of Dean are well known for their Christmas Fantasy trails, where all ages enjoy the story as it unfolds around the magically decorated caves. There is even a Christmas grotto where you can meet Father Christmas and a Christmas market.
Riding on a steam train enjoying mulled wine and mince pies or to see Father Christmas is also a lovely thing to do in the area at Dean Forest Railway, Perrygrove or Severn Valley Railway.
Hereford Cathedral is a stunning place to visit any time of year but if you really want to feel in the Christmas mood, there are a variety of events including carols for shoppers every year.
If you enjoy the tastes of Christmas, a trip to Abergavenny's Christmas Food and Drink Fair is well worth a visit.
